Lunarez sim in Second Life

Initially, the Lunarez “sim” will be deployed in Second Life as a block of 16 islands, professionally developed with a consistent and realistic lunar theme. For consistency with the Second Life environment, it will be placed at the bottom of a crater. It will contain project workspaces and event areas placed in domes of different sizes, and areas reserved for sponsors.

We are also considering “exporting” the Lunarez sim to other VR environments such as the next generation of Entropia Universe, based on Cry Engine 2. We also follow with active interest open source development projects like Open Croquet and OpenSim (open source SL-like system, accessible by standard SL clients).

The image and video coverage from the lunar lander mission will be used to create a fully realistic virtual rendering of the landing area, a next generation virtual theme park on and about the Moon. After the landing project members will have the opportunity to drive the rover on the moon, controlling it from the virtual environment (subject of course to the engineering lifetime of the first and future rovers), and participate in all sort of experiments and creative entertainment initiatives. Before and after the mission, project members will have the opportunity to enter the Lunarez VR worlds and participate in space and science - technology themed initiatives (courses, conferences, seminars, shows, games, music), as well as in the actual design process of Lunarez missions (workshops, technical meetings).
